Dog Trainer

Training an Italian Greyhound can be a delightful experience! They are intelligent and eager to please, but their sensitive nature and high energy require a gentle and patient approach. Here’s a guide to successful Italian Greyhound training:

1. Early Start:

• Begin training as soon as you bring your Italian Greyhound puppy home, ideally around 8 weeks of age. Early training helps establish good habits and makes training easier in the long run.

2. Positive Reinforcement is Key:

• Italian Greyhounds are sensitive dogs, so positive reinforcement methods are crucial. Use treats, praise, and toys to reward good behavior. Avoid harsh punishment, which can lead to fear or anxiety.

3. Focus on Basics:

• Start with essential commands like “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “down.” These commands are fundamental for communication and control.
• Keep sessions short and engaging: Italian Greyhounds have short attention spans, so make training sessions fun and brief.

4. Harness Training:

• Italian Greyhounds are known for being strong and eager to pull on leashes. Consider harness training to distribute pressure more evenly and make walking more comfortable for both you and your dog.

5. Socialization is Essential:

• Expose your Italian Greyhound to various people, dogs, and environments to help them become well-adjusted and confident.
• Start slowly and supervise all interactions. Make sure all encounters are positive and rewarding.

6. Potty Training:

• Potty training is crucial for any puppy, and Italian Greyhounds are no exception. Use consistent routines, praise for success, and accidents as learning opportunities.

7. Avoid Harshness:

• Italian Greyhounds are sensitive dogs, so avoid harsh training methods or forceful techniques. They are prone to being startled easily.

8. Be Patient:

• Training takes time, patience, and consistency. Don’t get discouraged if your Italian Greyhound doesn’t get it right away.

9. Engage Their Intelligence:

• Italian Greyhounds are intelligent dogs and can learn a variety of tricks. Use puzzle toys and training games to keep them mentally stimulated.

10. Consult a Professional:
